Submit your S-FR questions for Tokyo show

We may have a chance to ask some questions to Toyota representatives at the Tokyo auto show at the end of this month. Please submit your (reasonable) questions and we'll try to get it answered!

If the rumors we're hearing of a sub-2,200lbs curb weight are true, and knowing how much research and development Mazda put into pulling off that kind of weight in the ND (which by dimensions is smaller than the S-FR), what did Toyota do to achieve such a light production weight?

Hey admin, is there a space to fit me in your luggage. lol

    I have few questions.
    1. Which engine are they going with? Mazda? Subaru?

    2. Why went with another FR instead of like... new MR2 or Celica GT-Four?

I'd like to know what kind of timing this will be. Are they going for multiple concepts like the 86 and a slow rollout or is this a near production concept and they are releasing it soon (within 1-2 years)?

Questions I have on the S-FR that would affect me getting it:

    1. What is the exact layout and specifications of the motor?
    2. Is the chassis an 86 chassis?
3a. Is transmission the same or very similar to the one currently used in the 86?
3b. What kind of gear ratios planned for the transmission.
3c. Wheel and tire size for the production model?
    4. Any aluminum or composite body panels?
    5. Is the instrument cluster/gauge layout like what will be on the production models?
    6. Will traction control/stability control be implemented like that of the 86?
... and if so, can the diagnostic mode/'pedal dance' be implemented?
    7. What kind of roof will be in the production model...fixed, targa, or other (clear roof)?
    8. Hatchback version? (unfortunately, will most probably be a trunk layout from what I can tell...oh well I could live with that...)
9a. Why is it not a 2 seater?!
9b. Are the seats the same as the in the 86?
    9c. How many airbags?
    10. How long until production model is ready for release?
    11. Is it planned for world wide/North American release?

    1. What model year? 2018? 2019? 2020?

    2. Suspension setup philosophy? More Miata (soft springs, lots of body roll) or 86 (stiff springs, less body roll)?

    1. same as vracer, will it be a liftback? (fastback style with hatchback lift gate)
    2. any possibility of forced induction?
    3. will the engine be revvy with a high redline?
    4. are rumors of an atkinson cycle motor accurate?
    5. how will the handling and driving dynamics compare to the frs? will they be similar?
    6. i'm not a fan of the "cute look." can you restyle the front fascia to look more keen like the frs?

What does this actually mean? I doubt the engine will accelerate as quick as a 458 but as you have not given any specification as to what constitutes revvy this question can answered in any way without actually meaning anything. "Yes, the engine will be revvy." Oh great, it has a revvy engine. Ditto with "high redline". Does the 86/BRZ have a high revving engine? Depends on who you ask. A motorcycle rider would say no. A diesel driver would say yes. Take your pick.

... and if so, can the diagnostic mode/'pedal dance' be implemented? You're suggesting a PR hack would allude to a diagnostic feature that can be switched on/off that will affect safety?

9a. Why is it not a 2 seater?! Because a 2+2 has greater market appeal.
9b. Are the seats the same as the in the 86? No
9c. How many airbags? This will be a deciding factor on whether you get this car or not if it makes it to production?
    10. How long until production model is ready for release? Concept car
    11. Is it planned for world wide/North American release? It won't be released in Antarctica. It would be released in the U.S.
    random stuff

At the published price point, only if the owner installs one.

Actually not all the questions affect me wanting the car, those being 3c, 4-5, and 8-11... LOL

These are mainly question I want to know about the car sometime before it goes on sale, as for the airbags I'm just curious and hope the seats don't have airbags...

And I do know why it is not a 2 seater but still want the question asked because I naively wish if maybe there is enough "Why not 2 seater?" response they may take that as some interest in one. I'm sure they have heard of the Mazda MX-5... since they are constantly comparing it to it. I know...I know...the S-FR is more useful than the miata with a 2+2 configuration - you can fit your tiny lunchbox or a small briefcase in the back seats!
